Washing a toddler’s hair isn’t difficult but there are specific things you have to keep in mind. You should always use a shampoo that is gentle and not going to burn their eyes. Specific shampoo and body wash for kids is the best thing to use since they are formulated to suit their needs. Both them should be very easy if it is accidentally washed in to their eyes. Since they are so young, you probably only need to wash their hair once every two days.
However, once they are eating solids you might find you need to wash their hair on a daily basis because they will tend to smear food on their heads. Alternatively, to achieve a clean head with less intervention between washings with shampoo, a clean damp washcloth will be sufficient for babies who are bald or have very short hair.
African American babies tend to have dry hair so it is important to keep an eye on it. It might even be best to shampoo their hair only once or twice a week. There are even brands of shampoo that cater to babies with dry hair. The ingredients that they use to help are ones that add extra moisture to their hair and scalp.
Toddlers and babies alike may not be comfortable with having their hair washed. Normally they will get used to this, but if not, visors are available that they can wear to help protect their eyes from water or shampoo.
After washing hair, let it dry naturally before brushing to avoid stretching and breaking the hair. In situations where the hair needs to be brushed before it is completely dry, use a wide-toothed comb and be very gentle. Be sure any brushes you use are a soft baby variety, and each child should have their own one.
Conditioner should not be used on babies, and should be used on toddlers only when absolutely necessary. If used at all, a toddler formulation should be employed and not adult conditioner.
Baby and toddler hair care is not at all difficult and should be kept low-key and gentle.
Don’t forget to look at more information on hair supplies. Once your toddler has grown up, you can get them some curling iron for creating wonderful curly hair.
