After giving this a lot of thought and throwing three bachelor parties myself, I pretty much have it down to a science. I have to admit though, that my record is 2 and 1. For those of you out there who do not follow football or boxing, that is two wins and a loss. The first bachelor party I put together did not go very well. Things got broken, the food was terrible, and the entertainment left something to be desired. I redeemed myself with the next two and I am now the go-to guy when it comes to the bachelors last hoorah. Throwing a bachelors party is not as easy as it sounds. It is not like picking out unique wedding favors where you have a couple of choices and you pick the one in the middle. Wedding favors are a piece of cake when compared to bachelor parties. In fact, the phrase “Throwing a Bachelors Party” is completely wrong. It implies you threw it together and if you follow that philosophy, you are already doomed to fail. Here are the five most important things to remember when you put together your shindig.

Fundraising is the most important word in the throw a great bachelor party handbook. If you can afford to pay for the party then be my guest but if you are like the majority of us guys out there, you need as much help as you can get. Start fundraising early because you want to have your party well in advance of the wedding. You should have a bachelor’s party at least two weeks in advance of the wedding. Invite only close friends of the groom. Remember, just because you are his best man does not mean you know everyone he does. Ask his family for help finding close friends that he would like to see but that you do not know. Let everyone invited contribute to the cause. Do not set a price but make a suggestion of $100.00 per head. This will go a long way to making it the best party he has ever had.

Invitations are for weddings. Avoid sending invitations for a man’s party. Go and invite each person individually. Leave them with a card or something with your name and number on it. You will need to know if your head count changes. If someone is inviting someone else or if they have something come up and cannot make it, you will need to know in advance so that you can adjust accordingly.

It is not a bad idea to cater the party’s food and drink. Have an open bar and a buffet style meal for the guests to enjoy. Remember that these are men you are catering to so have plenty of man food. This includes pizza, burger and dogs, chips and dips. If you throw a bachelors party and serve chicken casserole and a nice salad, be prepared for a severe ribbing and quite possibly a burning pink belly. You might want to go with a sports theme and rent some space at your local sports bar. Big screen TV’s and single guys partying go hand and hand.

Safety is not a word men often use when talking about anything. However, it is a good thing to keep in mind. You would not want to lose anyone over a problem that could have been avoided with a simple question, like, “Are you allergic to any foods?” Do not serve shrimp or peanuts to someone who has an allergy to these things.

Another aspect of safety is drinking and driving. It might be a good idea to reserve some of your funds for a nearby hotel room if you are not already holding the party in a suite. Having a place that someone who has had way too many to crash for the night and safely park their car is always a great idea. Before your party starts, collect emergency numbers from everyone. This is not just for emergencies but if you take away a friends car keys because they are too inebriated to drive, they may have friends or loved ones that would worry should they not come home that night. A simple phone call and explanation that they are sleeping it off in a safe place is the courteous thing to do.

These are just a few of the important highlights that go with having a great bachelors party in a responsible way and the reason you will be chosen to put them together whenever the need arises.
