Your body’s preferred source of fuel are carbohydrates. And your muscles are no exception here. In fact, without carbohydrates your muscles will not be able to produce much work or burn many calories.
And immediately after your workout is a great time to fill your muscles with carbs without gaining fat.
So here is how to get more carbs into your muscles for better fat loss and performance:
1. Use the carbs in your muscles: An intense workout that drains your muscles of their carbohydrate stores will create the proper environment for maximum repletion. So make sure you use advanced techniques to completely fatigue your muscles.
2. Lose weight: Although ironical, the more weight you lose the easier it is to get carbs into your muscles. This happens because as you get leaner your body has a heightened ability to make insulin do its job. Thus, make sure you have a fat loss plan in place if you are overweight.
3. Use supplemental carbs: You want to have carbs in supplement form right after your workout. This is the one time when your body will work best on a supply of fast digesting carbohydrates. Otherwise, stick to slow digesting carbs like beans and legumes.
4. Have protein with your liquid carbs: Now you only need a very small amount here. However, having some protein with your liquid carbs will enhance the absorption of said carbs within your muscles. More often than not, a supplement will be the most time effective source of protein.
5. Have an insulin mimicker: Anything that helps insulin do its job will make the process of getting carbs into your muscles that much easier. And one good option here is to throw some natural cinnamon into your post workout carb and protein shake.
6. Get sleep: Unfortunately, sleep deprivation increases insulin resistance. And many people in today’s society are more sleep deprived than ever. So make sure you go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day no matter what.
Increasing carbohydrate absorption after a workout isn’t just about building muscles. It’s a sound strategy for anyone wishing to burn more calories and get in shape!
