You’d be hard pressed to find a costume theme that kids are more excited about this year than GI Joe costumes. Children everywhere are using their wild imaginations to become the onscreen military team that fights Cobra to save the world.
Let your oldest kid act out the role of first sergeant, Duke, who’s always looking out for his team members. The young ones in the family can choose who among the characters they’d want to mimic – be it the ninja who can expertly engage in hand-to-hand combat, or the brave annihilator of Cobra commander.
Stealthy Ninjas
Yound kids can’t resist the idea of dressing up in an all black jumpsuit with hooded mask and becoming a little ninja warrior. If you can’t find a jumpsuit that looks quite right at home, you can easily find a high quality ninja costume online.
Another kid can don an all-white ninja outfit with paired with a pair of white pants with belt and become Cobra’s Storm Shadow. A plastic sword and sheath would complete the look.
It never hurts to do a little background research on the GI Joe characters in order to create a more authentic look. An example would be Snake Eyes, a member of GI Joe, who covers his face completely to disguise the awful scars he has on his face from a traumatic event in the past.
The Girls of GI Joe
Have a daughter who wants to join the costumed fun? Let her be the black bodysuit-clad female member of the GI Joe team, Scarlett, and hand her a crossbow. Just be sure she does not inflict any serious harm on her ninja brothers using it.
Finishing Touches
Accessorize your kids’ GI Joe costumes with plastic visors, gloves and swords and let them have the time of their lives. You could even go all out with a deluxe armor muscle costume from the movie.
And don’t neglect to bring your digital camera along to catch all the memories. You want to save the moments so you can reflect back on them and share them with family and friends.
