1. It’s not about products. It’s about people.

Social media like forums are not really well understood by a lot of people.

If you think forums are for selling, you are badly mistaken.

“But… I’ve got a great product!”, you say.

What are people talking about? What are the hottest threads? What really gets folks riled up and excited?

And… who are the leading voices? Who are the natural leaders on this forum?

When someone says or does something worthy of praise, go ahead and praise. It’s a small thing. But it can be so important.

And don’t be phony. Always be sincere.

And when you think you know what’s going on, and are ready to “join the adults” in conversation, only then do you give yourself permission to speak!

3. Get this right… or else!

Are you trying to promote a product? Get folk to join a subscription list?

There is a right way to do that… and a wrong way.

Give honest, useful, thoughtful advice and help and people will flock to your signature to find out more about you.

Then, they’ll buy you.

And when they buy you, they’ll buy your product, or sign up to your list.

And, I mean, in large numbers.

Alternatively…

Try to promote your list, product, widget, whatever in a blatant way… and you could get yourself banned from that forum. Forever.
