Many of the dog owners today struggle with the problem of house training. Although many methods have worked to solve this problem, there are some dog owners that resort to drastic ways out of frustration and desire to have their dog house trained quickly.

In order to get the behavior the dog owner wants, he/she has to find a training method that is right for the dog. It could be training through constant supervision or training with the use of housebreaking aids such as paper or cage. Although, using both also produces results.

Even though cage training is effective, you will find a lot of concerns about this method. Many people think that by using a cage or any other sort of related training aid in general is inhumane and that it shouldn’t be forced on dogs. Although, using a cage has proven to be the most effective and efficient of the many ways to train your dog.

Why? First, because dogs are den dwelling creatures. For centuries dogs have been known to go to a den if they wanted warmth in cold weather or to cool of in the heat. They consider their den as their home in which they are safe from harm. Therefore a cage should feel like home for them – not a cage!

Secondly, dogs like to keep their home and bed clean and will be reluctant to soil in their cage. By confining your pet to their own den, they will learn how to control their bodily functions until the proper time presents itself. Puppies need to be taken out more often than older dogs because they have limited control of their bowels and bladder. Taking these steps will help your puppy establish a schedule for bathroom trips.

You can get a cage in many different styles and made from various materials. You can find cages at your pet supply stores, hardware stores, or in the pet section of some department stores. When you purchase a cage for your pet, consider their needs and consider why you are buying the cage. If you travel, consider purchasing a cage made of plastic for your dog, as wire cages will not protect them from extremes of temperature. You should also think about the size of the cage. Buying a new create when he has outgrown the old one costs a lot of money. You can easily buy a large cage for your puppy to grow into and simple block off the area of the cage that the puppy does not need, so he/she can’t go to that area to void.

It is important to be consistent when using a dog cage for housetraining. Your housebreaking issues will soon pass if you do this properly.

When considering adding a new dog to the home, there are many factors to think about. When making this new addition, make sure to prepare for proper training and have the right tools on hand to make the transition easier for the puppy and yourself. While it’s possible to train a dog yourself, for those without experience in dog ownership a dog training course with your puppy will be well worth the investment.

If you hear stories of other dog owners who have failed, don’t lose heart. Whether you have owned a dog that has run your house, or simply want to avoid it, dog training school is a necessity. Dogs don’t misbehave because they are not good, but lack of training can result in poor behaviors. By sending your dog through a training program, you are doing your part to ensure a happy relationship.

Pet owners tend to get caught in a power struggle with the dog. Dog training includes learning the right body language and tone of voice, as well as a reward system for your dog that still leaves you in control. Owning a dog is like having a child, and sometimes some outside advice can be a lifesaver.

Dog obedience school provides young puppies and fully grown dogs the opportunity to socialize. Learning to interact with other canines is an important skill when you take your dog out. By going through a dog obedience course, owners will develop friendships for themselves and their dogs.

Dog owners that participate in a class with a formal setting will be taught commands in the premium environment. The instructor will be able to teach the owner to speak so the dog understands, and will be able to model body language needed to get results from your dog. There are tips that while simple, are often not well known to the general public. An instructor will be able to watch you work with your dog and to modify things that need work.

When working in a class setting, your dog will have the advantage of learning with distractions. This is an advantage, since once the dog goes home where there are not the distractions, the skill set should transfer easily. This works better than adding distractions after a skill is learned, where the distraction will actually make the dog forgetful.

Putting your dog through obedience school is the beginning of a long and satisfying relationship. Having a dog that is well trained results in one that is more secure, confident and well behaved. Trusting its owner and his expectations will result in consistent behavior. Dogs that have gone through obedience school are also safer around children and visitors, and it also prevents undesirable behaviors.

A dog that is trained well will allow you to fully enjoy the benefits of dog ownership. Dogs will also give fringe benefits as well – lower incidences of illness, a source of exercise, and an outlet for social interaction. This benefits both owner and dog!

4 Easy Ways To Get Your Garden Back

If your dog has just started digging up your garden then you need to take quick action. Stop your dog from digging in the garden, by giving him an alternative activity. You see for a dog to dig is instinctive. You can’t really get it totally out of his system.

Your garden is the perfect area for your dog to run around and grow up in. He will get to know every inch of it and will know exactly where to dig for moles or mice and bugs. If you don’t show him an alternative then he will just carry on digging because he doesn’t know better.

Here are a few practical tips to keep him from digging:

1. Usually when we are working in the garden our dogs see this as a game. He will also start digging around where you work and just can’t dig fast enough to get to the prize. It’s cute to see but destructive to your plants. Have your garden hose ready with the sprinkler attached. Get up slowly and turn on the tap to full blast. The water will gush out onto him and he will stop digging. You will have to persist a few times with this. In a while he will think it is the sprinkler who is unhappy with him and not you. He should stop digging after a while.

2. If this doesn’t work, get a strong water pistol from a store. Walk around the places where he is digging and start shooting him with the water. Don’t shoot directly into his eyes as you could cause damage. He will not like it because the water is interrupting his play time and will get annoyed after a while. Do this also a few times until he gets the message. You must not say anything during this time. He must be brought to believe that it’s the water that is disciplining him and not you.

3. Maybe he is bored and digs holes because of shear boredom. Try to take him for long walks every day so that he is away from his boring surroundings. He needs stimulation with new sights and sounds. He will soon build up an expectation to this and will gradually stop digging up your garden.

4. If you find that despite all your attempts you failed, then you might want to prepare a part of your garden for him. You will have to train him though to dig only in that area. Bury treasure for him to find. Leave a half buried toy in the ground and always get excited when you show him to dig it up. Here perseverance will Stop your dog from digging up your garden and it should do the trick in a few days.

Most people have one of two opinions about dog bathing. Some believe that dogs only need to be washed every year or so. Others believe that they should bathe their pets once a month.

Bathing is good for dogs, but it can cause problems if you do it too often.

That’s because all dogs have oils in their fur and skin, the same way as people do. Wash your dog too often and his skin will dry out. Your dog will itch, and may scratch and create sores. Remember there there are benefits to retaining the natural oils. They protect the skin from its own bacteria, for instance.

If you want to make bathing fun for you and your dog, there are a few things to pay attention to.

1. Ear protection is important for your dog in the bath. If the ear canal gets soap and water in it, an infection could occur. This could be temporary, but serious damage could also occur. Infections can cause harm to the ear drum, leading to possible deafness. Some signs that your dog could be suffering from an ear infection, he may shake his head often or develop a discharge from his ears.

To make sure that this doesn’t occur, all you need to do is use cotton balls to stop your dog’s ears. Never force these into the ear canal – just place them securely at the entrance of the ear, keeping water out. Once the bath is over, dry the ears to keep moisture out – a finger wrapped in a cloth works well. If you decide to use a cotton swab, make sure you don’t put it too deeply into the ear canal, since it could damage the ear drum.

2. Make sure you use the right shampoo. Products made for people are irritating, harsh, and full of scents your dog may be allergic to. Dog shampoo protects your pet’s skin and fur.

3. The frequency with which you bathe your dog will depend on the breed you have. Dogs with long hair need to be washed more often than breeds that have short hair. That means that if you have a hairy breed, such as a spaniel, you may need to bathe as often as once every two months. Other breeds could go as long as eight months, but outdoor dogs will probably need more frequent bathing.

Starting your dog off right with routine bathing is important. Be compassionate and patient, since scaring your dog makes it a lot harder to bathe him. Make bathtime fun if you can, since lots of dogs enjoy swimming or being sprinkled with water.

If you can, set up your bath outside. Encourage your pet to run through or sit in it. Use toys to distract your dog from the water. Once he’s calmed down a little, start the bath. Some people put their pets on leashes to keep them from running away.

Have everything ready first, including soaps towel, a bowl for pouring water, and brushes. Water coming out of the tap might be a little cold, so let water in the bath warm up a little.

If you show your dog that the bath is fun, you and your pet will both enjoy it and look forward to it.

When you decide to keep a dog, you must remember that it isn’t enough to just do the minimum. You have to do more than just feed, provide shelter, and other essentials. It is also important to provide dog puppy training. You don’t have to pay someone to train your dog as you can actually do this yourself at home with just a few techniques. Let see how this works.

* Keep in mind that physically hitting a puppy will not get you anywhere. It is important that you get respect from your dog but it is just as important that you earn it by respecting your pet as well. Doing this is very critical in the relationship building process. Hitting a dog will only cause fear, and a scared dog is not a good thing. You should have strict and consistent rules.

* Another dog puppy training tip is to give your dog a reward if he did something right. You can give dog treats or biscuits as rewards for a job well done, or a praise said in a kind tone of voice. By doing so, the dog will continue doing the right thing because he is getting something good from doing it.

It is very important to treat your dog like a dog and not like a small toy. I have seen many pet owners dress, cuddle and baby their dogs, which is very unhealthy. Many people do this because dogs have a tendency to be cute and cuddly. Our pets are not there for us to smother them with hugs, but they have basic needs that must be met. They all have distinct personalities as well.

The right dog puppy training is key to having a perfect and happy relationship amongst man and dog working together under the same roof.

Why is training very important? Dog training is important because it enhances the quality of life for both the owner and their dog.

Dogs are such bundles of joy. From the cuteness of a puppy to the deep loyalty of an adult, dogs are truly man’s best friend. However, dogs are very pliable animals; who they are and who they become depends in large part on how they are trained and how they are treated within their family. One of the great things about dogs and puppies is their deep interest in filling their family role and making their family happy. As humans, we can take full advantage of this characteristic and train our dogs to reach their fullest potential as members of our family.

The significance of training your dog has to go further than the very fundamental level of safety or the avoidance of property damage and physical injury. Dogs are by nature pack animals and early on in life they recognize a social hierarchy. As the dog’s owner you must be at the top of that hierarchy, for the sake of the sanity of both of you.

When they know you are the leader of the pack it gives the dog a sense of its place in the group. It can follow your lead, secure in the knowledge that you will keep it safe from harm and well-fed. Training is the only way to ensure that you are acting in the same way than an alpha dog would do.

Dogs are very routine-oriented. They love precise daily routines. So, the first step to good dog training is consistency. Consistency does two things. It shows your dog who is in control and it also makes clear what her family role is. Dedicate specific times of day to do things with your dog. An obvious activity is letting your dog outside to go to the bathroom.

Walking with your dog is very important in any life of a dog. It is a good exercise for your dog and his capability in running wild will be limited. Through this, your dog may be able to walk without restraint, but you should allow this if only your fundamental training is absolute.

Training your dog will not only benefit them but also you as an owner. Giving them basic training will give you serenity in mind because you know that they are following your commands. It may sound autocratic but it is very necessary for the benefit of everyone. It will bring harmony within.

Being a responsible pet owner means that you must take your pet’s health and welfare seriously. One such aspect that must be taken very seriously is the inevitable experiences with dog fleas. Dog fleas can seriously affect your pet’s health. Your dog’s ability to get a good sleep will be hampered. In addition, the itching and biting can take a serious toll on your dog’s coat and skin.

What is the best way to get rid of dog fleas? There are different answers to that question. You must get rid of the actual fleas on your pet plus you must get rid of the fleas in your pets environment. If you do not pay special attention to getting rid of fleas in your home, your pet will quickly get re-infested. Once you have gotten rid of the fleas on the animal and in your home, you would be wise to engage in some preventative steps. Some easy flea prevention steps will go a long way in preventing future bouts with fleas.

As recently as 10-15 years ago, getting rid of fleas was a tedious and arduous process that involved a lot of combing and picking. Thankfully, the pet health industry has made getting rid of fleas much easier. There are a number of commercially available flea medications that work quickly and effectively. Some of the better known brands include Advantage and Frontline. Your pet will have some relief from fleas within the first 36 hours after taking the medication and the fleas can be totally eliminated within 3-4 days. These solutions are applied topically and are non-toxic to your pet.

As safe as some flea medications may be, there are some people who insist on only using natural methods to get rid of fleas. Whether to use a natural or commercial treatment is a matter of personal taste and lifestyle. The natural methods tend to be more labor intensive and, perhaps, slightly less effective. Two common natural remedies involve using olive oil and talcum powder to rid your pet of fleas. If your dog is not suffering too badly, it would not hurt to try a natural remedy first. If the infestation is sever, then it is wise to start with a remedy obtained from your vet.

As previously mentioned it is critical that you also get rid of any lingering fleas in your house. The extent of house cleaning will depend on the extent of the infestation. At the very least all areas where the animal sleeps must be vacuumed or even stem cleaned. All bedding, blankets, and linens that have come into contact with the animal must be washed.

An ounce of prevention is the best remedy and the same can be said for getting rid of dog fleas. Some dog owners add some crushed garlic to their pet’s food and swear this is the best flea prevention method. Other people do not want to give their pet’s garlic for health reasons. Speak to your vet about what flea prevention methods might be right for you.
